Back in the 70′s and 80′s, people weren’t really interested in keeping their hair healthy. They bleached it, permed it and therefore did a great deal of harm to their locks. Fortunately, that isn’t the case anymore, as both men and women everywhere have become more conscious about the state of their hair and the products they can use in order to keep it in good condition.
Perhaps what you’re looking for is more volume for your hair. If this is the case, one very popular option would be to apply a honey mask on the entire length of your hair and leave it on for about 20 minutes before rinsing. Should you have enough time for a more elaborate concoction, mix the honey with one ripe banana, an egg and about a half a cup of beer. Blend all the ingredients together and apply on the hair as well as the scalp. However, keep in mind that honey can lighten the shade of your hair over time. In order to prevent this from happening, you can substitute it with molasses.
Another thing you could try is rinsing your hair with cold water after having washed it. The water is said to close the cuticles of the fiber and therefore make it reflect light better than before. For an additional boost of shine, pour a cup of apple cider vinegar into your rinsing water, as that will eliminate any residual products from your hair.
If volume is the thing in which you are most interested, know that there are many homemade concoctions that you can use to your advantage. A good example would be gelatin, as many people say that it can make your hair seem thicker in just minutes. Just add it to your normal shampoo and employ as usual. If applying gelatin to your hair doesn’t seem all that appealing, you could try mixing together one egg yolk (which is known to nourish and strengthen it at the same time) and about three tablespoons of regular beer. This latter element will give your hair an extra boost of volume and a healthy appearance. Apply to damp hair, let it sit for about 30 minutes, then rinse and condition.
Finally, remember that, although these are all powerful and effective products, in certain situations they just can’t do the trick. Therefore, if you find that your hair is especially damaged (be it from too much bleaching or excessive use of heat), you might be better off going to see a specialized hairdresser. This way, you will be able to benefit from the best professional products and tools that are available in a salon, all in just a couple of hours.
